Pregnancy is one of the most beautiful phases in a woman’s life. It is also one of the most trying and frustrating times in terms of looks and comfort. Contrary to common belief, just because you are pregnant and your body is changing to accommodate the growing baby in your womb, you do not need to feel or look unattractive. The present day moms are beautiful, sassy and sexy, too.

Some days, sex would be farthest thing from your mind during pregnancy; on other days, you could find yourself thinking of nothing else but sex. This is often blamed upon the hormonal imbalances that take place in your body during pregnancy. Note that doctors do not contraindicate sex during pregnancy unless there has been a history of miscarriage or you are too close to the due date, as the orgasm could trigger off labor pains. This means that you could lead a normal sex life with your partner, in spite of the changing looks. This also means that you need to stay attractive to your partner, just as you were before pregnancy.

It is very true that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder and often, pregnant women look unusually attractive to their partners because the baby represents the fruit of their love. This could be also because the hormones sometimes cause an inner glow unmatched by any facial or cosmetic aid. Use some great clothes to complement this inner glow and you would be as beautiful as can be.

Here are a few tips that would ensure that you look as attractive as ever:

1. Wear sexy lingerie – there are shops both online and offline which specialize in lingerie for pregnant women. Give yourself plenty of time when you shop for these offline, as you should try to take a look at as many variations available as possible. Thongs at this time are a good idea, as this highlights your backside and at the same time gives support to the swelling stomach.

2. Pair your thong or supra-elastic micro shorts with baby doll nighties, which can cretae a stunning effect. Try those nighties that have a cut immediately under the breasts, as this would look flattering to your expanding body.

3. Choose lingerie made only of silk or satin as this gives a cool and very comfortable feel, besides looking mind-blowing sexy.

4. As the pregnancy progresses, you would find that your breasts are enlarging due to milk formation. Ensure that you massage your breasts with Vitamin E oil or any such aid that prevents the formation of stretch marks. Use the enlargement to your advantage and use clothes that show off the décolletage both in the bedroom and outside.

5. Wear clothes that make you feel good about yourself. Pamper yourself thoroughly both with sexy designs and comfortable materials. Feeling good about yourself and the way you look would add to your attraction.

6. Exercise well. Flabbiness never looked good on anyone. Keep your body toned and in great shape by exercising daily. Consult your doctor before deciding upon your exercise routine for the pregnancy period. Besides making you look great, exercising would also help you feel on the top of the world since it releases endorphins, which are known to promote a happy and peppy mood.

7. Eat whatever you want – consult your doctor and make a list of what is contraindicated for your diet. Outside that list, treat yourself for anything you like. Treat these nine months as a private holiday time where you can do whatever you want. The happiness within would reflect upon your face, and you would not be surprised if your life partner falls in love with you all over again.

Breastfeeding is an essential phase in an infant’s life. There is much to be said regarding infants who have been breastfed and those who did not go through it at all. This is because in the first few days after giving birth, mothers secrete very rich, fatty milk that is called colostrums. This is why breastfeeding is encouraged during the first few days after birth.

Apparel for Breastfeeding

One of the main concerns of mothers who wish to breastfeed their infants is the privacy that they need to do this. There is actually a need for clothes and apparel that function as ordinary clothes but permit the infant easy access to the mother’s milk when needed. Many manufacturers have realized this and provide apparel that addresses mothers’ needs.

1.) Breastfeeding Bras with flaps: Ideally, if mom’s breastfeed at home, a comfortable shirt and breast feeding bra is all they need. After all, the mother can have the privacy of her own room or the nursery to breastfeed her child. Breastfeeding bras feature a flap that mothers can detach from the strap. The flap is them pulled down to expose the breast for the mother and child’s convenience. Usually, mothers do not need to wear nursing pads when they are at home with their child because leaking is easy to remedy.

Breastfeeding at work or public places

It is when mothers are at work or in public places that the challenge of breastfeeding presents itself. Even though the mother can go to a secluded place, the chances of being interrupted or seen are still there. Wearing clothes that provide easy access to the milk but still covers up nicely are necessary. There are certain clothes that are more convenient than others to use. Since the mother still needs a bra but at the same time easy access for the infant, clothes that come with pads may be needed as well. Most breastfeeding apparel also features different kinds of openings for easy access as well as very nice cover ups. In most cases, only the necessary part of the breast is exposed for the child while the rest is covered.

2.) Breastfeeding Pads: Breastfeeding pads are necessary when there is a need or intention to go out in public for a long period of time, whether with an infant or not. This is because the milk has a big possibility of leaking when the supply is full. Breastfeeding pads help to absorb the excess milk and prevent signs of leaking on the front of clothes. Bringing extra breastfeeding pads and changing when necessary will help avoid embarrassing situations.

Maternity and Breastfeeding Bras for Sleeping

3.) Maternity Sleep Bras: A sleep bra offer light to moderate support for moms who are breastfeeding. Light support is needed for these bras because of the heavier breasts that nursing moms have. These bras are usually very soft and offer easy access when the need to breastfeed arises. The choice is to either pull up the bra or pull down a flap to feed the infant. The reason why sleep bras are different from other bras is because mothers also need to be comfortable while sleeping but still need some support for their breasts. Some moms opt not to wear bras while sleeping but the milk can leak and cause some inconvenience or discomfort may be felt when there is no support whatsoever for the breasts.

Four Most Important Breastfeeding Accessories

4.) Breast Pumps: A breastfeeding pump is one of the necessary accessories of a nursing mom. Not only does it provide the child with mom’s milk but it can also provide relief for mom’s who have a full supply of milk and are engorged. Other uses of a breast pump are to collect milk to increase the supply or production of milk by collecting every few hours. Some mothers who need to medicate may also continue their milk production by using a breast pump to collect milk but not give the medicated milk to their babies.

Manual breast pumps may be more difficult to use than electric ones. Electric pumps are also less damaging to the breasts due to controlled pressure thus making milk collection every few hours possible daily.

5.) Nursing Pads: Nursing pads are also items that may be necessary for moms who may have superfluous supply of milk most of the time. Leaking milk can present a wardrobe problem. These nursing pads absorb the excess milk.

6.) Breast Soothers: Breast soothers are items that help soothe the aching breasts of an engorged mom. These gel pads are placed in the freezer for maximum coolness and then placed on the engorged breast for relief.

7.) Breastfeeding Drapes: A breastfeeding drape is also one accessory that a mom might need especially if she is not wearing clothes that are specially designed for breastfeeding in public. The drape covers the part of the baby that is nursing and some part of the mom.

Maternity clothes are things that you can not do without while you are pregnant. Not only do these help to accommodate your bulging stomach but they also give you a sense of style even when you are twice your normal size. Buying maternity clothes will actually be tough because pregnant women tend to grow fast so your pregnant size may change as you progress through gestation.

Most manufacturers of maternity clothes size their maternity clothes pretty much the same as normal clothes. If you have not put on too much weight, this can be an easy basis for buying clothes. Most maternity clothes are designed to have bigger space where it matters, in the front of the torso. If you are the type to put on a lot of weight when you are pregnant, you might want to buy maternity clothes a little at a time to fit your growth or buy them big at once to accommodate your expected weight gain.

Shopping for Maternity Clothes Online

Most big stores have online stores that show some of their available clothing. There are even specialty stores that offer only pregnancy related items. Stores that specialize in pregnancy are the best ones to browse through first when you want to buy maternity clothes. You can view the maternity clothes online and even check out what sizes they have available as well as see the color choices. Many online stores state the materials used for their maternity clothes. Most even give out discounts or free shipping if you reach a certain amount.

If you have doubts about ordering your clothes online without fitting them or seeing hem firsthand, you can always visit the store that you browsed through the internet, providing it is in your area. This is actually a good decision to avoid sending the clothes back if they do not fit or if they do not live up to your expectations. Sometimes internet pictures may be more beautiful due to professional photography.

Where do Celebrities Buy Maternity Clothes?

Many people like to know where they shop for their maternity clothes. Well, in the New York district, the more fashionable maternity stores include A Pea in the Pod where Debra Messing and Cate Blanchett bought some of their maternity clothes when they were expectant moms and Veronique Maternity, where Gwyneth Paltrow shopped for her maternity clothes.

Childish Maternity Clothes is also another store that Gwyneth Paltrow bought maternity denims from as well as Courtney Cox Arquette and Britney Spears. Jennifer Garner and Britney Spears also love the maternity clothes from Chiarakruza Maternity Clothes. MolyAnna’s is another favorite maternity store of celebrities due to their humorous shirts that state their condition. Celebrities like Britney Spears, Holly Hunter, Heidi Klum and more have bought clothes there often when they were expecting.

Pregnancy is a stage in a woman’s life where she and her partner want the best for their child. Usually, couples, especially those expecting for the first time, will try to buy the very best of everything that they can afford for the future of their child. Maternity clothing is a must for women because their bodies change drastically to accommodate the new addition to the family.

Organic maternity clothing is a recent addition to the organic products that have been coming out recently. The term organic actually means that the materials used for the maternity clothing was grown from plants without any use of chemical based pesticides and fertilizers. It also implies that the materials of the maternity clothing did not go through any chemical process as it was prepared for production. If it is made from cotton, then the cotton is organic cotton dyed with organic dyes and processed in such a way that the environment is not affected negatively.

Benefits of Wearing Organic Maternity Clothing

One of the benefits of wearing organic maternity clothing lies in the reaction that your skin and body will have. Organic products usually have lesser risks of having an allergic reaction to the users or wearers. Basically, organic maternity clothing is safer for the expectant mother especially during this time of hormonal changes and high sensitivity.

The main benefit of wearing organic maternity clothing is actually focused on the environment. Organic means that the growers and manufacturers of these products have taken the time and effort to protect our environment. The cultivation of organic cotton to make into organic maternity clothing means that there are less chemical based pesticides and fertilizers in the soil. People seem to think only of organic food as good for our bodies but actually it should not matter what product it is as long as it is organic.

Our environment is slowly deteriorating due to the amount of toxins that we ourselves put into the earth via fertilizers, pesticides and other agricultural products that are harmful. Not only will the environment benefit from organic farming but also the workers of the farms. Organic farming means there is less or no risk at all for the workers to be exposed to harmful chemical that can be dangerous to them.

Think of organic maternity clothes as your contribution to making the world a healthier place for the baby that you carry. Investing in ways and means to make the word a better place is not only for our generation but more for our children and their children’s children.

Pregnancy is can be a breeze for some women while for other, many aches and pains surface and lessen the enjoyment. Doctors may even prescribe that the expectant mom wear a support garment especially for medical reasons such as a weak back, abdomen support and others. Some women use pregnancy support garments to support their active lifestyles and working needs. These also offer support for the different growing and changing parts of the body such as the breasts and abdomen.

1.) Maternity Belts

During pregnancy, the strain of a growing uterus can tax the back, the pelvis, some bones and muscles. Maternity belts give support to the strained muscles and bones as mothers grow out of proportion. Most simple maternity belts offer support for the growing stomach and for the strain this puts on the back. Maternity belts may have different features since some manufacturers try to outdo each other by adding belly support to some belts that help support the growing belly as well as lessen the strain on the back. Belts are commonly used to give strong and specific support in the back and lower abdomen.

2.) Maternity Underwear Support

On an entirely different level, some back and tummy support can be seen in specially designed panties or girdles. These support underwear help to compress the back and support the burgeoning belly. The support is integrated into the underwear in such a way that it is hardly noticeable when worn under clothes. These types of maternity support underwear are great for those individuals who need moderate support because the material is not as hard or thick as the ones on the maternity belts. These types of maternity support are only good for the first and second trimester when the stomachs not so big and heavy.

3.) Full Torso Maternity Support

These kinds of maternity support garments are used for individuals who need strong support for their pelvis and back. The entire torso serves as the support for the growing abdomen to lessen the pressure on the pelvis and back. Those who suffer from chronic back pain and painful pelvic muscles may need this kind of maternity support. Usually, full torso support garments leave the area of the abdomen open for less compression on the baby’s part and comfort for the mom.

This kind of garment also offers support for the woman’s breasts which may also be experiencing changes during pregnancy. Initially, wearing this support garment may be uncomfortable but you get used to it. Some full torso support garments come with sleeves or without and may also have compression shorts that reach down to mid thigh.

4.) Maternity Compression Support Garments

These garments are used to help compress parts of the body to prevent veins from growing too big. These usually concentrate on the thighs or legs of the pregnant woman and can also be used post delivery. Veins that can not take the weight and pressure of the growing uterus may pop because of this. Many compression garments are focused on addressing the needs of mothers after delivery. Our skin is flexible but not flexible enough to return to its original state without out help.

Support and compression garments are actually very useful for pregnant women who have active lifestyles and health problems pertaining to muscles and bones. Wearing these can reduce back pain and muscular aches which are common during pregnancy. Not all women are recommended to wear these support garments. If you feel that you have excessively painful aches and pains, you might like to consult your doctor regarding using support garments.

What to wear while sleeping?

Many pregnant women feel warm during the most part of gestation.
It is best to wear loose fitting clothing when you sleep to be more comfortable. Tight clothes will restrict your movement and possibly even restrict blood flow to some parts of your body. Many maternity sleepwear feature night gowns that one can wear even after you have given birth. Many have the empire cut and can be easy to use for breastfeeding as well.

Maternity pajamas need to be not so tight around the stomach area so make sure that the elastic is comfortable. Pajama tops made for pregnant women usually feature spacious areas in the stomach to accommodate your growing tummy. For those who prefer to sleep in their usual lingerie, there are those that are designed for pregnant women. These come in the usual satin or silk in various colors and designs that can satisfy the needs and wants of pregnant women.

The most important thing is to be comfortable when you are sleeping. You can even wear your tatty old clothes if you wish as long as you feel that you can sleep well in these. Getting as much sleep as you need is necessary for pregnant women.

Maternity Pillows for Pregnant Women

These pregnancy pillows come in various shapes and sizes and are usually firm for better support. Some of these pregnancy pillows are contoured to fit the shape of a pregnant woman sleeping on her side (side sleeping is recommended by doctors when you are on your last trimester). These can be really comfortable to use when sleeping because they support the belly and also support the spine and back to prevent backaches. Other shapes of maternity pillows are long and slight bent to accommodate a pregnant woman hugging it with her arms and legs.

The way that you usually sleep may be different from the way you sleep when you are pregnant. You will be able to learn what kind of pregnancy pillow you might need by the way you arrange you ordinary pillows when you sleep. You do not necessarily need to buy the specialized chiropractic pregnancy body pillows. Ordinary pillows will suffice in making you comfortable as you sleep. You can arrange the ordinary pillows to your liking.

Air Beds For Pregnant Women

Maternity air beds have been advertised to be comfortable and perfect for pregnant women. If you really think about it, maternity air beds are just like the ordinary air beds with some contouring in it to accommodate the expectant mother. They are susceptible to leaks and do not breathe well due to their vinyl material.

One drawback of a maternity air bed is the movement factor which may induce nausea in some people. Sometimes, the airbed is also more susceptible to chill than other beds due to the air inside it cooling as the night progresses. Although, many pregnant women feel excessively warm for most of their pregnancies, an overall chill may not be good for some. Acquiring a maternity air bed is actually dependent on the preferences of the individual pregnant woman. The important thing is to try it out first to see if you might like it.

Other Tips for a More Comfortable Sleep

Don’t sleep immediately after a heavy meal: Sleeping immediately after a heavy meal can result to heartburn. The thing is sometimes pregnant women feel drowsy after meals and wants to sleep; to avoid possible heartburn, it is best to prop up your upper body. You might also like to take it easy on the spicy food to reduce the risk of heartburn and other digestive problems. This also works even when you are not pregnant.

Take bath in lukewarm water: If you are having a hard time sleeping during the later days of pregnancy, taking a warm bath before sleeping may help you sleep better. It can also help you feel more comfortable and clean. The grimy and sticky feeling of not being clean during sleep can sometimes keep you awake. Avoid water that is too hot as this may elevate your blood pressure. Be careful when soaking in the tub as this can be slippery and you are not used to the extra weight which may make you feel unbalanced.

Sleep whenever you feel like it: Pregnant women are encouraged to sleep when they feel like it. This is our body saying that we need to rest and when we are pregnant, we need a lot of rest since our body is undergoing monumental changes. Taking a nap once a day is good for you but when you feel excessively sleepy throughout the day, you might like to consult a doctor.

Best sleeping position for pregnancy women: Sleeping on your left side is said to increase blood flow to your uterus aiding in your baby’s development as well a supplying blood and oxygen to most of your vital organs. This is the best sleeping position for a pregnant woman. When you are in the 5th or 6th month, your doctor will encourage you to sleep on your side to avoid squashing your organs with the baby’s weight. You might also like to elevate your upper body to facilitate proper breathing during the last trimester. Avoid sleeping on your belly.

These are just a few tips that will hopefully help you achieve better sleep during your pregnancy.

Gone are the days when lactating moms had to put up with uncomfortable and hard to use maternity bras when nursing their offspring. The maternity clothes market today is filled with top quality and comfy maternity nursing bras that can help you nurse your baby with comfort and avoid situations like breast mastitis

Selecting the Right Nursing Bra – Factors to Consider

The following are the two major factors to consider before you decide to buy a maternity nursing bra.

1.) Nursing Bras with Underwire or without Underwire

The fact is that underwire nursing bras offer most support than bras that do not have underwire. But they can get very uncomfortable at times. Underwire pregnancy bras put excessive pressure on the breasts that can lead to inflammation of lactating breasts causing situations like mastitis and duct blocks. This situation can be avoided by wearing a nursing bra without underwires.

But if you have large breasts and have gotten used to wearing a bra with underwire all this time then chances are that you will not feel comfortable wearing a bra without one. In this case, select your underwire maternity bra with extreme care. Make sure the material of the bra is elastic enough to comfortably adjust to the breast size. In addition, make sure that you do not put on an underwire bra when you go to bed. No matter how comfortable the underwire bra can be they do confine the breasts and wearing them to bed is an open invitation to making your breast tender and susceptible to a host of problems and infections.

Nursing bras without underwire can be very comfortable to wear but they cannot offer enough support to large breasted women. So if you have medium or small breasts your best option is to go for maternity bras without underwires.

2.) Nursing Bras with or without flaps

Both undewire and no-underwire nursing bras are now available with flaps that can be detached to expose the breasts without actually having to remove the bra. The flaps are designed in such a way that they can be removed easily using one hand considering that the mother will usually be holding the baby in the other. The flaps can be adjusted to suite a range of cup sizes.

Maternity bras with flaps are best for moms who might have to nurse the baby in public places. They are also easy to use and can make things very convenient for the lactating mother. The only disadvantage the bras with flaps present is in terms of the pricing. These bras are generally very expensive as compared to ordinary bras without flaps.

Nursing bras without flaps on the other hand are made using very soft fabric which can be pulled to one side when nursing the baby. These bras are also as convenient to use as bras with flaps. Only thing is that they cannot be used for discreet feeding. But the plus point is that these maternity bras are very less expensive and can also be very comfortable. They also double in as a pregnancy sleep bra considering that the material used is very soft.

If you are not already aware, mastitis is a condition which leads of inflammation of breast tissues because of obstruction of milk ducts eventually leading to infection.
Ill-fitting nursing bras – One of the many causes of Mastitis

Experts have found that ill-fitting maternity nursing bras is one of the many reasons why mastitis develops in breastfeeding moms. In this case, the bra is unsupportive or too confining restricting the free circulation of milk between the milk ducts. This result in milk ducts getting plugged leading to inflammation and infection.

Some other reasons (apart from maternity bras) why mastitis can set in are as follows:

Irregular and low breastfeeding

Missing feeding

Long intervals between breastfeeding

Ignoring nursing cues like feeling of breasts being full

Sleeping on your belly for long duration

Cracked or bleeding nipples

Excessive stress

Flu like condition with heavy fever (101F or higher)

High level of tenderness in one of the breasts

Feeling of tiredness or run down

Having body chills

Ache in body parts

Natural Remedies to Deal with Mastitis

Here are a few natural remedies for mastitis. If you feel that the condition is worsening, please consult a lactation specialist at the very earliest.

1.) Get a lot of rest and try to relax your body
2.) Try to unblock your breast ducts by nursing often. If your child is not around use a breast pump instead
3.) Light massage your breast to ensure healthy circulation
4.) Give yourself a hot bath twice or thrice a day
5.) Alternatively place hot and cold compressions on the effected area of your breast
6.) Drink plenty of water and eat healthy food
7.) Try using different breastfeeding positions while nursing your baby
8.) Change your nursing bra and get a bra that is comfortable. Usually bras with flaps will do the trick
